BRIEF
CSR of SOBHA is supporting Kizhakkanchery and Vadakanchery Panchayaths through Social Empowerment towards Employment, Health Centre and The Sobha Academy for the Child Education for the past few years. The dream of Sri. PNC Menon to Educationally Empower the Youth is the start of icon since June 2010.
CATCH THEM YOUNG
Conceived through brain-storming long discussions decided to select the 8th class students of Kizhakkanchery Government High School for a five year long holiday classes. May be 600 days of intensive training on English Communication and Other Scholastic Talents alongside an overall development as an Individual. Equal footings are given to Improve Life skill and Soft Skills.
SELECTED A FEW
90 students out of over 300 students are selected with a weeklong interactive session / test followed by interviewing parents. Selection process was with the support of the School Authorities and PTA. Parents are briefed about the projects and the support that is required.
PUNCTUALITY / ATTENDENCE AND DISCIPLINE
Students’ attendance and punctuality is strictly followed. First class was on 26th June 2010, a harthal day. 83 out of 90 students were present; a few had walked over 20 kms to reach the class. Half a dozen students are dismissed on disciplinary grounds. These measures are sending a credibility message among the public.
FACILITIES AND SUPPORTS
Classes are conducted at Sobha Hermitage / Academy / Kurumba Kalyana Mandapam. PowerPoint Presentations, Video and other E-Learning tools are used.
Students are given a pair of uniform dress and necessary books and study materials. Facility supports and arrangements for their commutation are arranged with parents’ initiatives and supports.
Morning break-fast and lunch is provided. All students are made to drink water at regular intervals by providing water bottle at their seat.
ENGLISH COMMUNICATION
Students are encouraged to shift to English Medium. Out of 90 students, over 70 are shifted due to the icon program. School now added three English medium sections to support this.
NEWS PAPER READING & ACQUIRING GK
Subsidized rate on The New Indian Express English News Paper is supporting to subscribe. Students are taught to read news paper and given assignments to make sure that they follow it systematically. Classes are conducted to prepare students for quizzing teaching GK.
FACULTY
Teachers of high quality / students with teaching skills / college faculty who can translate the knowledge to 8th class level, professionals from various fields are all invited to talk to students to cater to all-round development.

CREATING TEACHERS
Workshops will be conducted to general students’ community / professionals / teachers, who all have the interest in teaching on adaptive learning / teaching skills. First course is planned on September 1st. The creative discussion on replicating similar program will also be discussed on such forum.
Many of the school teachers at various levels and neighboring college students are met on various programs and lectures sessions to popularize and draw educated lot into teaching at icon.
